Alright, bakers! Last year, you all loved seeing us at IBIE, so this year we’ll be making our way to… drumroll please… iba in Munich, Germany! I’m so excited to see its unique cross-section of the entire industry, with everything from raw materials manufacturers and packaging technology to traditional crafts and digitalization. After being postponed because of the pandemic, iba will be taking place from October 22 – 26, 2023. Mark your calendars!
As the baking industry continues to evolve to meet the demands of modern consumers, ingredient, packaging, and equipment companies must evolve, as well. One of the topics I am really excited to see addressed at iba is sustainability.
Solutions for Making Bakeries More Sustainable
Sustainability isn’t a trend, it’s a way of life. Now more than ever, consumers are concerned about where the ingredients in their food come from, who is producing them, and what effect that has on the planet. There is a much higher demand for ethically sourced ingredients, transparency, and adopting sustainable practices. As a result, the baking industry has become more dedicated to adopting eco-friendly practices. For bakeries, this can be in the form of implementing recycling programs, reducing food waste, using renewable energy sources, and most popularly, employing compostable or biodegradable packaging. There are options for cleaner and greener bakeries that can be adjusted to every budget, which is why I am looking forward to seeing what new technologies will be on the show floor at iba this fall.
