How To Build a Stronger Baking Industry Together

How To Build a Stronger Baking Industry Together How To Build a Stronger Baking Industry Together.

Four years ago, finding reliable, free information for commercial baking industry questions was a lot harder. And now, one solution is being recognized internationally for its easy access and scientifically-sound information. Yes, I’m talking about BAKERpedia. Over the last few years we’ve seen incredible growth—in content and site users. However, I believe our success is relevant to the entire industry.

What is the secret behind this growth? And why is this exciting for the entire baking industry?

After spending over 10 years in the baking industry, something was bugging me. I noticed that information was either expensive, unreliable and not science-based, or troublesome to access. So I went to work creating BAKERpedia, an online, reliable, science-based resource freely available. The goal was to provide trustworthy information and create a platform that would boost the entire baking industry.

Today, we have 700+ website pages, 6,000+ social followers, and partnerships across the industry.

Here’s how what we learned can help you

I attribute our website success to a few key things. These practices can go a long way in helping your website traffic and brand awareness as well:

  1. Scientific writing for the digital age: Online audiences have more choices and less time. So to make your content stand out it needs to get the point, have visual aspects and be concise and authentic. You can still reference research and back up your claims, just be mindful about how you do it.
  2. Search Engine Optimization (SEO): I can’t stress this enough. Content that is optimized for search engine algorithms will rank high on results pages, which means it will be clicked on more. Good SEO involves keyword research, shared backlinks, quality content, and social media.
  3. Social Media Strategy (SMO): If you’re going to use social platforms like Facebook and LinkedIn, you’ll need to use them effectively.  Share backlinks to your site to help with SEO, be consistent with posting, and contribute  meaningful content and conversations.
  4. Be tech savvy: In the digital age, things change fast and the audiences follow. Stay up to date on latest trends and best practices, and always be looking ahead. If you keep things the same, you’ll be left behind.

And last but not least…

The power of learning and community

Why am I sharing our company’s playbook? Because the heart of BAKERpedia is to help all of the commercial baking industry. That’s why we partner with organizations like the American Society of Baking (ASB) and the British Society of Baking (BSB). They value the importance of learning; of building a community to share ideas and innovations. They want to add value to careers and an industry that can change the world.

This month I’ll be speaking at the 2018 BSB Autumn Conference. This conference is an example of how the BSB brings together thought leaders and creates a flow of technical information. I’ll be sharing with an international audience how the practices and ideas of BAKERpedia can strengthen the entire baking ecosystem. I’d love to see you there and discuss how you can help propel our industry into the future! Or send me an email at [email protected] and let’s talk.

The BSB conference is Oct. 17-18th in Oxfordshire, England. Learn more
